In 2012, I read online about people who make sprite modifications of old video games, and wanted to see if I could do the same for Super Mario Bros. I would need a source that would have lots of characters and in-jokes, and so I landed on making a Stanford Band-related version of the game. Mario would become the Tree, coins would become donuts, and Bowser became this horrifying version of Oski.
The Tree encounters plenty of enemies, such as this referee.
Notre Dame’s leprechaun takes the place of the turtles. When stomped on, the leprechaun goes inside its pot of gold.
Replacing the mushroom enemies are UCLA’s Bruins. I think they’re kind of adorable.
And when you beat Oski, a Band member tells you the captured Dollie is somewhere else.
